Region
Muscadet Sèvre et Maine area extends across some twenty communes to the south east of Nantes. It takes its name from the two rivers flowing through the vineyards: the Sèvre Nantaise and the Maine.
Variety
Melon de Bourgogne originally came to the Loire Valley from Burgundy. It is a child of Pinot Noir and the nearly extinct Gouais Blanc and is related to Chardonnay, Gamay Noir, Auxerrois, and Aligoté.
Producer
Château Cassemichère was built in 1601 under the reign of Henry IV and has not changed in any shape or form since. The wine pays tribute to the cradle of Muscadet with a selection of the best parcels of the vineyard that first appeared in 1740.
The average vine age is 35 years!
Serving
Serve in white wine glasses, 8-10 degrees C.
The Nose
Dried citrus and stone fruit, toasted honey and vanilla bean. Quince jam, poached pear, cantaloupe and honeydew melons. Hints of lime and cinnamon, and meyer lemon preserve.
Tasting Notes
Full bodied and rich, the freshness is underscored with a light yellow colour. Lemon balm, saline with a background of citrus fruits and flowers. An ample and generous Muscadet. A nice example of an exceptional marriage of fruit and oak.
