Ciello Bianco Catarratto
Alcamo is a large, hilly wine region on the island of Sicily, where the fields are completely covered by vines. The majority of production comes from the Catarratto-based white wines where producers in this region are finally beginning to make some waves. In order for a wine to be considered part of the Alcamo DOC, it must contain at least 60% Catarratto grapes, and in the main production area, that number rises to 80%.
Cataratto is one of the classic traditional white grape varieties of Sicily. It is the most widely planted grape on the island and rather neutral- tasting with low acidity. This variety produces light, refreshing wines with juicy texture and crisp lemon flavours- perfect for cooling down on a warm summer night..
Rallo, located in Western Sicily, was founded in 1860 by Don Diego Rallo, but was taken over by the Vesco family in 1996. Today, the winery has about 70 hectares of vineyards, all of which are located in the DOC zone of Alcamo. The Vesco family has since revolutionized the viticulture practice and has invested heavily in cutting edge technology and is now recognized as having one of the most modern production lines in the region.
Serve as chilly as you like your bracingly crisp whites...I prefer mine just out of the ice bucket.
Hints of funk with notes of fresh citrus zest. Think lemonade with hints of green apple and a hint of barnyard.
The nose translates to the palate wonderfully, really great acidity helps to tie everything together.
Restaurant: From CatchWeight Fish n Chips, the Tuna Tostada with fresh local albacore tuna dressed in a sesame citrus dressing with avocado mousse and an overly rich mayonnaise is the move.
Home: At home, pair with any bright and vibrant seafood dishes, oysters on the half shell, and really any light shellfish preparation
