Region

Napa Valley has been known as the benchmark for Cabernet, although other areas of distinction have risen throughout the coastal regions such as Sonoma, Monterey and Paso Robles. Grapes for this wine are sourced from all these regions to create a wonderful overall balance. The cooler climate grapes contribute acidity and elegance while the warmer appellations lend bigger, bolder fruit flavours.

Variety

Cabernet Sauvignon is the most widely planted grape in the world and produces bold, deeply coloured wines. The wines are rich and have dark fruit flavours such as black currants with big tannins and are usually medium to full bodied.

This specific style of wine is a multi regional blend - aiming for balance and harmony. Some vineyards provide grapes that add acidity and elegance and some add boldness and darker fruit. The goal is to create an approachable wine that is enjoyable by everyone!

Producer

Family owned for over 30 years, Angeline was founded by Courtney Benham in 1990. Made at Martin Ray Vineyards, their philosophy is producing wines that are a true expression of its varietal. They blend exceptional fruit from the best vineyards in California to make balanced, affordable wines that can be enjoyed every day with minimal intervention from their wine making team. They are super focused on sustainability. Over 80% of their power is produced by solar energy and their wastewater is treated onsite and reused for irrigation which is particularly important during this time of drought. All grape pomace is composted.

Serving

15 degrees Celsius, in a Bordeaux glass. Temp allows the fruit to shine, and is warm enough for you to feel the lush mouthfeel and rounded tannins.  A wider bowl helps Cab Sauv’s rich fruit and oak characteristics, and alcohol to breathe and sit in proper balance.

The Nose

Fresh blackberry, cassis, cocoa.

Tasting Notes

Black cherry, blackberry, vanilla, hint of savoury herbs on the finish. Dry, medium body, soft tannins.

Food Pairings

Restaurant: Braised short rib, farro verde, maitake mushroom, gremolata.

Home: Burger, Short ribs, hearty lentil stew (for our vegetarians)!
