Region
Cotes du Rhone is among the oldest vineyards on the planet. Greeks, Romans and Medieval Popes loved the taste of native grapes and their rocky soils. These fruity red wines are delicious and easy to drink upon release. Cotes du Rhone Village is a step up in quality. The grapes are sourced from 95 communes where the yields are lower and alcohol is higher making more complex wines suitable for aging.
Variety
Syrah-Grenache-Mourvèdre
A blend well-loved around the world for its complexity and balance created from a mix of bold and peppery syrah, fruity Grenache, and savoury, full-bodied Mourvèdre.
Producer
Château La Nerthe is the oldest estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape with over 400 years of exceptional winemaking, and one of the first estates to bottle their own wine. La Nerthe is a sustainably farmed property that has been certified organic since 1998. They have a wonderful reputation in the wine community across the world.
Serving
12-15 degrees Celsius, in a Bordeaux glass. Temp allows the fruit to shine, and the glass allows the bouquet to develop and the wine to achieve its best balance.
The Nose
Refreshing and bright nose of red fruit, blackberry, black cherry, violets, hint of garrigue.
Tasting Notes
Echoes the palate with black cherry, blackberry, blueberry, a floral note, a hint of spice and garrigue. A wonderful purity of fruit, smooth and polished tannins and just enough acidity to keep it fresh and balanced.
Food Pairings
Restaurant: Campanelle, spicy sausage & fennel ragú, parmigiano reggiano.
Home: Something robust — fatty steaks like ribeye, grilled red meat, roasted chicken charcuterie, stew…meats with rosemary and sage as well.

Why We Like It
What don’t we love about this wine? A beautiful juxtaposition of savoury and sweet, this balanced red drinks well now but also has significant aging potential.
