Region
South of Mendoza, the Uco Valley is nestled against the foothills of the Andes with elevations up to 1,600m. Blue lakes, green vineyards, and the Andes are the typical view in the Uco Valley’s three sub-regions: Tupungato, Gualtallary, and Tunuyan. Because of the altitude, the climate is cooler, with average temperatures of 14° C. This causes the wines to have high acidity and be intense and powerful on the palate.
Variety
Malbec is the flagship varietal of Argentina, a real star in Mendoza. Originally this is actually a French grape from the South West. It was well spread in Bordeaux but became less planted and used over the year to leave more room to SW-France weather resistant grapes like Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. However, with the success of Argentinian Malbecs on the export market, more and more Bordeaux producers are starting to try to bring back this lost soul and actually use the name MALBEC right on the front label, which is definitely not common for old-fashioned Bordeaux producers who usually showcase the appellations on their packagings.
Tasting Notes
Deep floral aroma, especially violets, and red fruits such as raspberries and strawberries. In the mouth, soft and high volume tannins, which give the wine a long and exquisite finish.
Food Pairings
This is a perfect wine for BBQ: mint pork chops, T-bone steak, grilled marinated chicken. It will also be a good companion to a fancy cured meat and hard cheese platter: mature gouda, strong coat cheese or pecorino.
If You Like This Wine, You May Also Like…
With high altitude come a new range of primary aromas: fresher and juicier crunchiness of the fruits. If you like this, then you should try a Cabernet Sauvignon from Andeluna too.
Why We Like It
We love this wine for its high-altitude characters: freshness, almost minty, almost zesty! The vines are nestled right by some of the highest Andes mountains, a unique terroir between eternal snows and moonlight. The wine comes to life in a state-of-the-art winery where experience, know-how and quality-control bring together the highest quality results.
