Why We Like It
There are hundreds of white grape types planted throughout Italy, but none quite like Vermentino. Found primarily in three regions: Liguria, Sardinia, and Tuscany, Vermentino is a flavourful, light-bodied white wine that will melt your tastebuds. Vermentino gets its layers of flavours from seaside vineyards, allowing it to have bolder flavour intensity than your typical Italian whites. To put it simply, this wine is one of a kind.
What We Taste
Grapefruit, apple, melon, honey with hints of minerality.
What We Smell
Citrus, pear, mineral.
Food Pairing
At Bar Corso: This wine pairs well with herbs and citrus, marinated over something as simple as olives... Try it with olives a la corso; marinated castelvetrano olives, with almond, chili, & citrus available HERE .
At Home: White fish or pork dishes work well, such as halibut and sausages, spinach and artichoke dips, hummus, asparagus.
Region
Liguria (luh-gur-ee-uh) may be one of Italy’s smallest regions, but when it comes to wine making ... this place sure knows how to pack a punch. The cliffs of Liguria make vine growing so difficult that some vineyards can only be reached by boat. Most of the wine is the work of local, artisanal producers who grow their vines on terraces carved from the rocky slopes (it’s no wonder this region has the second-lowest output of wine in Italy). However, don’t be fooled, these tough growing conditions result in some incredibly tasty wines.
Producer
Lvnae (Loo-nei), is a family owned winery located in the eastern-most corner of the Liguria region in Italy. In 1966, Paolo Bosoni inherited his family’s land that was devoted to agriculture and switched the focus over to wine production. Without him, we wouldn’t have been introduced to the Vermentino that you’ll soon be sippin’ on. Wanna know what makes this winery so unique? The vineyards are made up of small pieces of land (none larger than 2-3 hectares) and use all natural fertilizers while the grapes are harvested by hand in small crates.
