Jean Loron, Domaine des Billards Héritiers Loron Saint-Amour 2019 Members Only
Domaine des Billards Héritiers Loron Saint-Amour
Producer: Jean Loron
Variety: Gamay Noir
Region: Burgundy, France
Gamay Noir is a light-bodied red wine that is similar in taste to its beloved cousin: Pinot Noir. Grown primarily in a region called Beaujolais, Gamay wines are loved for their fruit character that is derived mostly from the aromas rather than the taste. It’s a light, cheerful wine that pairs extremely well with a wide variety of foods, making it hard to go wrong.
Cherry, raspberry, blackberry, plum, chocolate, smoke.
Mix of red and black fruits, violet.
At Bar Corso: Think grilled seafood or roasted duck breasts ...Try it with Bar Corso's grilled octopus salad ft. smoked ricotta, braised faro, fresh peas & salumi crumb, available for takeout HERE.
At Home: Charred barbecue chicken or wings, spicy foods with a little bite, or chocolate desserts.
For a region that’s so well-known in the wine industry, Burgundy produces a surprisingly small amount of wine (only around 3% of France’s overall wine production). Home to some of the most expensive wines in the world, this region can be intimidating even to some of the most seasoned wine aficionados. With Pinot Noir and Chardonnay originating from here, they remain the primary focus of production, but Gamay and Aligote can also be found. It’s safe to say that quality over quantity rings true in Burgundy.
The history of Domaine des Billards dates back more than 300 years ago with Jean-Loron in the hills of Beaujolais. However, after passing through eight generations of the Loron family, in 2016, the reins were handed to Phillippe Bardet, who is now the acting director. This marked a major turning point for the business. The now internationally renowned wines are known for being some of the best in the world, but we would expect nothing less from a producer that has 15 different estates. In other words, these guys mean business.
