Region
The district of Stellenbosch is one of the oldest and most important wine producing regions in South Africa. The French were the first to plant vines in the Stellenbosch region in the 1690s and the region is still at the forefront of the growth in the country’s wine industry, home to nearly a fifth of all South African vines today.
The Stellenbosch region’s mountainous terrain, good rainfall, well-drained soils and diversity of terroir make it one of the most sought after viticultural areas in the country.
Variety
The berries are distinguished by their russet color when ripe—roux is French for the reddish-brown color russet, and is probably the root for the variety's name. The aroma of Roussanne is often reminiscent of a flowery herbal tea. In warm climates, it produces wines of richness, with flavors of honey and pear, and full body.
Producer
Ken Forrester manage their vineyards in a sustainable manner. They create a range of handcrafted, individually made wines that suitably complement a wide variety of food styles and provide excellent value.
All hand selected, from low yielding bush vines dating back to 1974.
