Why We Like It

The Valle D’Aosta is a tiny region in North-West Italy near the French border, and as a result many of the grapes and wines have French names. Petite Arvine is a traditional grape here that makes light and lovely refreshing wines.

What We Taste

Fresh pears, green apples, white blossoms, and blanched almonds- This wine is fruitier, denser, deeper on the palate than the nose might suggest.

What We Smell

This is a refreshing minerally white with a salty and chalky note.

Food Pairing

This wine would be perfect with Chambar's Miso-parsnip Risotto, or any other cheesy, starchy foods! Order the perfect pairing from Chambar HERE.

Region

Valle d’Aosta is Italy’s smallest and least populated region. Although it is a popular alpine holiday destination for many Italians, it is practically unknown to the rest of the world. The Valle d’Aosta is about as extreme as Italian winemaking gets. In an eternal struggle against the massive Alps, vineyards are predominantly terraced. This region produces the lowest volume of wines and along with that, not much of it is exported. If you can get your hands on a bottle, consider yourself a lucky one!

Producer

With 25 hectares of grapes located in six different villages, and a production of 170,000 bottles per year, Les Cretes is the largest private company operating in the Valle d’Aosta region. The Charreres family planted their first 2 hectares of grapes in 1955 and have been growing their vineyard ever since. You wouldn’t expect unique conditions such as high mountains and alpine temperatures to be able to produce such quality wines but believe us when we say Les Cretes has it all figured out.

Wine Vikings Team Tip*

One word: fondue. April 11th is National Cheese Fondue Day and if you ever needed an excuse to get your bubble together, it’s for this game changing pairing.
